I use this version, but it does auto-update after restart
On macos the auto-update happens every time ((
The tabs and namespace selection system in the new lens is hot garbage. It is so bad it compelled me to come here and complain about it.
For example, why does clicking anything open a new tab? I want to move in the tab I am currently in. This works nothing like a browser.
The namespace selection dropdown is also a mess. It proritizes adding context instead of switching context. For example when I click a new namespace I don’t want to add that namespace to the current list. I want to switch to it. It makes it so I have to explicitly uncheck another namespace.
This whole thing is such a disaster. I am looking for alternative apps.
Please bring back Sticky searching across cluster objects (pods, deployments, configs, etc.). I do not like to have to retype my regex search in each cluster category. Please bring back the old selection of namespaces where you can completely switch namespaces by clicking on the namespace name, or toggle on and off multiple namespaces. Having to check and uncheck namespaces is an extra click.
Also with regard to larger font support, some people require that for accessibility reasons.
Currently, you can adjust the font size by navigating to View → Zoom In, which increases the overall interface size, including fonts. However, if this does not fully address the accessibility needs, we would greatly appreciate additional details about the specific requirements.
@jakolehm How to disable the auto-update feature in the old version? It’s so annoying. I have to reinstall the old version every time.
Yes we know it’s annoying and that’s why we created a version that does not auto-update automatically from the legacy version. See FAQ for the download links.
pls return old UI. The new one is like windows 98.
Here are my latest thoughts:
@jakolehm Basically New UI imho is not that bad, but something should be done with keyboard navigation.
Suggestion:
1)use cmd+w on Mac not to close tabs ,but to close opened resources. Like when you’re browsing pods, opened some couple of pod logs/terminal. Closing them with CMD+W would be much more expected behavior than closing “tab”
2)separate keybinding for opening tab , like CMD+shift+W on Mac.
3)cmd+arrows to navigate between opened resources tabs(like pod logs/shells)
4)cmd+shift+arrows to navigate between top tabs
5)add an ability to open second lens window, to allow user to open other cluster in another window, to not add mess between environments. Use case: devops working with prod and a test environment, IMHO it would be much safer if he would know:here I’m working on a prod, here I’m working with test. It would help to avoid some mistakes that could be done if everything opened in a single window.
You saved my life (and my Lens subscription)!
I agree with you. I still can’t enjoy the new UI!
I agree and we are already working on this while we move Dock out from the main tabs.
Let’s see what we can do here but I agree that there is plenty of room for improvements.
This is on the roadmap but it will take some time before we get there.
Lens new UI is terrible. Why to change something that is already working? Why don’t devs ask users (who are devs too) what they need?
Hello everyone!
I have been reading this thread to check how the community is reacting to this new UI and I want to give my feedback on some of this topics:
-
The UI, in general, is barely usable compared to the older one.
-
Navigation between cluster was WAY more clear in the older UI using the hotbar. Clicking on the cluster you wanted to manage 1 time, and changing with another click, was simple, but useful. Now you can manage all your clusters from the same view, but it has lost its smoothness and there is a need to remember which color each cluster was. You could call me picky, but I prefer to click 1 time and change my context instead of 2-3 clicks to a small icon or remembering (or checking) colors.
-
The general idea of tabs is ok if used with contexts. It is annoying to drill inside a cluster and get drilled out when clicking a tab from another cluster. You also get the cluster list expanded, therefore you have to do more clicks to get back to desired cluster. Just like terminals are attached to the context of a tab, tabs should be attached to a cluster context if you are drilled into it.
-
Tooltips appear too slowly compared to old ui.
-
The font used for the navigator panel is quite small, but I guess it comes from the new interface of this panel to reduce scrolling.
New release is out with contextual tab filtering and many other improvements / fixes: Lens 2025.2.141554-latest - Release
Preview of the upcoming Hotbar UI (please ignore the flicker, it will be fixed before a release):
Is the cluster under “Local Kubeconfigs”?
