# Extension confusion - Urgent Help

Hi everyone 😊,

I am new to Lens and am gradually exploring its features. I am particularly interested in its extension development capabilities, as I have a mandatory project to complete in this area.

After experimenting and reading through forums, I discovered that the latest Lens versions no longer support the current extension API. Additionally, there have been no updates on its development, even as we have reached version 2025.2.

I have a few questions regarding this:

- Are there any plans or hopes for a new extension API to be released soon (by the end of May or early June)?

- If not, could someone recommend a Lens version that still works with the current extension API? The website states that support was dropped from version 2024.9 onward, but I tried versions 2024.8 and 2024.7, and I couldn’t get any extensions— even those by Mirantis— to install. They simply hang during installation.

- I have also heard about OpenLens, but I am overwhelmed by the different versions and unsure which one would work in this situation. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be extremely helpful.

I would really appreciate any guidance or clarification on this issue, as I need a definitive answer to adjust my project accordingly. Thank you in advance!
