The new UI is terrible

I updated to the latest version ~1 month ago and really like the drill into feature; this allows the resources to be grouped by cluster vs all together. Took short time to get use to it but really like it now.

This seems to have become the de facto feedback thread for the new UI, so here’s my feedback:

  • Scrolling long lists of resources sometimes seems to not want to stay at the very bottom. I scroll and after scrolling stops the view scrolls up about half to 3/4 of an item. This makes interacting with the last list item quite annoying at times.
  • When a resource is selected and the details flyout is open, selecting a different resource lacks visual feedback that the flyout has updated. With the old UI in most cases the content was shifting around because at least annotations/labels were practically never the same size on different resources. With the new UI having them collapsed by default there is no longer a shift.
  • Tabs are kinda useless and confusing. On more than one occasion have I accidentally been interacting with the wrong namespace because they are not synced across tabs anymore. What I would like to see is the tabs acting to group namespace selections together, instead of being per resource kind.
  • Pod logs no longer auto scroll to the latest messages when scrolled to the very end. Multiple times already have I been waiting for some debug messages to show up in response to something I did in my deployed app, only to realize the messages have already been printed, they were just below the current scroll position.
  • Before I could switch between pod logs and deployment logs within the same tab. Now pod logs and deployment logs open separate tabs. I can work with that, but it clutters up the terminal tabs. I do however like the ability to select which of the pods from the deployment log will be shown.

EDIT: Forgot one more thing: When editing secrets, the cursor always jumps to the end of the text field after pressing a key. This makes making changes in the middle of a secret basically impossible.
Also, I’m on version 2025.2.141554-latest

yo i updated yesterday the sidebar that made it smple to switch within clusters is gone? how can i rollback? install the link on the top of the thread?

Hi @anirudhanirudh,

We want to be transparent about a recent change in Lens.

When we released the new UI in October 2024, we initially removed the Hotbar feature. Based on user feedback, we brought it back, but made it available only to:

  • Users on paid plans (Plus, Pro, Enterprise)
  • Long-time Lens users who created their Lens ID before October 2024 (as a thank-you for their support)

Recently, we discovered a bug in our feature gating: Hotbar had unintentionally been available to all users, regardless of plan. This bug has now been fixed.

As a result, some users who were not meant to have Hotbar access no longer do. We understand this may be frustrating if you had come to rely on it, but we want to be fully open: this was a mistake on our side, and access is now aligned with what was originally intended.

We know many of you enjoyed Hotbar during this time, and your feedback has reinforced its value — which is why it remains an important part of our premium plans.
Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to shape Lens with your feedback.
